Ss35 Rail screw spike, also called Ss35 sleeper screw, Ss35 rail screw or Ss35 lag bolt, is a medium or large metal screw used to fasten a rail base plate or rail. Ss35 rail screw spike provides a mechanical interlock that delivers more than twice the holding power of conventional hammered rail spikes. It is an important fastener of W14 Rail Fastening System. Ss35 Rail Spike is used to fix the tie plate or fasten the rail to the concrete sleeper with the help of Sdu25 plastic dowel. It has a very similar one called DHS35 Sleeper Screw Spike. The difference between Ss35 Screw Spike and DHS35 Screw Spike is the shape of the head. Ss35 Screw Spike has a square head and the other has a tapered head.
Ss35 Screw spike is usually made of Q235,35#,45# steel in China. As its nail rod surface has thread, it get its name as screw spike. The pull-out resistance is 0.5 ~ 1.0 times larger than that of common rail spike, but the thrust resistance is 50% less.
PLain oiled, Blasted oiled, Oxide black, Zinc plated, HDG, Dacromet, Sherardizing or according to requirements of customer.
Standard: Vossloh
Material & Grade: Grade 4.6 of material Q235, Grade 5.6 of material 35K, Grade 8.8 of material 45#, Grade 10.9 of material 40Cr.
Properties:
Tensile: 74,000 PSI MIN
Yield: 37,000 PSI MIN
Elongation: 18% MIN
Ss35 rail screw spike requires higher cost than the dog spike. But it has the advantage of greater fixing power; approximately twice than a rail spike, and can be used in combination with spring washers. Its properties is usually as below:
Tensile: 74,000 PSI MIN
Yield: 37,000 PSI MIN
Elongation: 18% MIN
For some high tension screw spike, its properties are able to be following:
Tensile: 120,000 PSI MIN
Yield: 80,000 PSI MIN
Elongation: 18% MIN
The quality of precision screw is directly related to production of wire. The second step is to inspect head screw forming. Mould testing is the most important for forming process of screw spike. Good mould is the premise that makes good screw spike.
To judge if a rail screw spike is qualified, you can check that it meets the following technical requirements:
Surface: The surface should be free of dents, burrs, flash, burns, and scales
Threads: The upper thread should be free of bumps and burrs, and the lower thread should be neatly shaped with no cracks
Head: A forged burst crack on the surface of the screw spike round table should not extend to the shaft
Size: The formed screw spike should be measured for its accurate size
Thread pitch: The thread pitch should meet the requirements of the customer and international standards
Tensile test: The screw spike should not break when a load of 130kN is applied
When buying rail screw spikes, you can consider things like:
Type and size: The most common types of railroad spikes are screw spikes and dog spikes. Screw spikes are also known as sleeper screws or rail screws.
Material: Rail spikes are usually made from carbon steel, which is iron mixed with carbon to make it harder.
Quality control: Consider the quality control of the spikes.
Safety: Mechanical spikes are safer than manual spikes and are used on many railway lines.
Maintenance: Mechanical spikes can be easily maintained with dowels, rail hammers, and other spike mounting devices.
Corrosion protection: To protect railroad spikes from rusting, you can apply an anti-corrosive grease that contains a solid filler, antioxidant, metal deactivator, and anti-rust agent.
Signum Rail Fastening furnishes many types of Screw Spikes used in tie plates, hook twin tie plates or other areas where rigid fastening is required.
