Pandrol Safe Driven (SD) clips are modern, high-performance threaded fastening systems designed to be pre-assembled on concrete sleepers or slab track elements. The "Safe Driven" name refers to the system’s controlled clip guidance, which allows the clip to be mechanically pushed between "parked" and "in-service" positions without requiring workers to place fingers near potential pinch points.
Unlike standard self-tensioned clips like the e-Clip, SD clips are tensioned using a screw and insert system.
Threaded Tensioning: As the screw is tightened, it compresses the spring steel clip legs to generate the necessary clamping force against the rail foot.
Captive Pre-Assembly: All components—clips, pads, and insulators—arrive fully pre-assembled on the sleeper from the factory. This prevents component loss and drastically reduces track-side labor costs.
Retrofit Compatibility: The SD range is specifically designed to retrofit into existing SKL-shaped rail seats, making it an ideal upgrade for aging screwed systems.
Robust Geometry: The clip's design increases the contact area with the rail and solves the common "ballast entrapment" problem found in older generic screwed systems.
Pandrol offers specialized variants of the Safe Driven clip for different infrastructure needs:
Fast Construction: The "switch-on/switch-off" function allows for very high rates of mechanized installation and extraction.
Longevity: Because the clip can be replaced without removing the screw, it prevents debris from falling into the sleeper insert, which significantly extends the life of the concrete sleeper.
Maintenance: The system achieved a consistent longitudinal restraint automatically once the screws are tightened to full contact.
