Railroad joint bars (fishplates) for 115RE rail are standard connectors used in North American heavy-haul and mainline tracks. They are manufactured to AREMA 2018 standards and are primarily distinguished by their 4-hole or 6-hole configurations.
4-Hole Bar: 24 inches long.
6-Hole Bar: 36 inches long.
4-Hole Pair: ~68 lbs (76 lbs with hardware).
6-Hole Pair: ~102 lbs (110 lbs with hardware).
Hole Spacing: Standard center-line spacing is 6" × 6" × 7-1/8" × 6" × 6" for the 36-inch bar.
Hardware: Typically uses 1" x 6" heat-treated track bolts.
Steel Grade: Most bars are made from carbon steel (Grade 45# or 50#) and are quenched to ensure high strength and durability.
Surface Treatment: Available in plain, oiled, or oxide black finishes to resist corrosion.
Standard Joint Bars: Used for connecting two identical 115RE rail sections.
Compromise Bars: Designed to join 115RE rail to other sizes, such as 100lb or 136RE rail.
Insulated Bars: Utilized in signal-controlled sections to prevent electrical continuity between rail ends.
Head Free: Designed to fit into the "fishing" space without contacting the underside of the rail head, reducing stress concentrations.
