Rail tie, also known as rail joint bar or rail fish plate, is a metal bar bolted to the ends of two rails to join them, providing structural integrity and ensuring smooth train movement. They are manufactured to precise dimensions compatible with the S49 rail profile and standards DIN 5901 or EN 13674-4 (for the interchangeable 49E1 profile).
Rail tie is also called rail connecting clamp in CIS countries, Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
S49 rail joint bars are specifically designed to match the dimensional parameters of the S49 rail (approx. 49.43 kg/m weight, 149 mm height, and 67 mm head width).
Material: Q235B,45#,55# etc.
Holes: 4 holes or 6 holes for bolting, with corresponding fish bolts, nuts, and washers.
Length: Range from 580 mm to 820 mm, depending on the specific design and number of holes.
Standard: Manufactured according to international standards DIN, UIC864-4 & UIC864-8.
Weight: A 4-hole S49 fish plate typically weighs around 8.5kg.
Normal Fish Plate: A standard metal bar designed to fit the rail profile and hold the ends together in the horizontal and vertical planes.
Joggled Fish Plate: A specially forged version used for the temporary repair of cracked or broken welded rail joints, allowing continued, though reduced speed, traffic until a permanent repair is made.
Compromise/Combination Fish Plates: Used to join two rails of different profiles (e.g., an S49 rail to a different standard rail).
