AREMA standard 136RE rail joint bars (also known as fish plates) are heavy-duty connectors designed for 136 lb/yd rail sections. These bars are strictly manufactured to meet AREMA and ASTM specifications (such as ASTM A370) to ensure high tensile strength and load-bearing capacity for mainline freight and mining operations.
Drilling Patterns: The "drilling" refers to the distance from the rail end to the center of the first hole, followed by the distance between subsequent holes. Standard 136RE bars use a 3-1/2" first-hole spacing.
Track Bolts: These joints typically utilize 1-1/8"x6-1/2" or 1"x6" heat-treated carbon steel track bolts with square nuts.
Regular Joint Bars: Standard structural connection.
Compromise Bars: Specially designed to connect 136RE rail to other sections like 115RE, 119RE, or 132RE while keeping the rail heads aligned.
Insulated Joint Bars: Used in signaled territory to electrically isolate rail sections.
136RE bars are often made from high-strength carbon steel (such as 900A or 1100 grades) to provide superior wear resistance and prevent fatigue under high axle loads. They are the preferred choice for heavy-haul systems due to their durability and long service life.
