- Component of Pandrol Fastening System
The E2055 is not used in isolation but as part of a complete fastening assembly. A typical E-clip system consists of:
1.Two E-clips, one for each side of the rail.
2.Two rail shoulders or lugs, cast into the concrete sleeper or baseplate.
3.One rail pad, placed between the rail and the baseplate to reduce vibration.
4.Two insulators, used in electrified rail to isolate the clips from the rail.
Pandrol E2055 rail clips are made from specific high-quality spring steels, such as 60Si2MnA, 55Si2Mn, 60Si2CrA, or 38Si7. These materials are chosen for their high elastic limit and fatigue resistance, which are crucial for maintaining track stability under the stress of passing trains.
The properties of the spring steel are achieved through a carefully controlled manufacturing process that includes:
Hot forging: The steel bar is heated and shaped using hot forging, which aligns the metal's grain structure to handle high loads.
Quenching: The newly forged clip is rapidly cooled in an oil bath. This process hardens the steel and increases its elastic properties.
Tempering: The clip is then reheated to a lower temperature to reduce brittleness and achieve the necessary balance of toughness and elasticity.
To ensure the clips meet performance specifications, they are subject to stringent quality control. This includes:
Fatigue testing: The clips must demonstrate a long fatigue life, with some tested to withstand millions of cycles without breaking.
Hardness testing: The final hardness is measured to ensure it falls within the specified range (e.g., HRC 42–47).
A protective surface finish is also applied to prevent corrosion and extend the clip's service life. This finish can be:
